Officials at Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills are attempting to identify the individual who re-posted a cell phone video of a schoolyard fight on YouTube after the clip had been taken down by the video-sharing website.
The individual who posted the video - which showed two students fighting - for the second time is not the same person who initially uploaded it to YouTube, said Chris Geed, a spokeswoman for the school district.
"If the person who re-posted the video is in fact a student and we can identify who that is, the student will face disciplinary action," Geed said.
Five students have been suspended from the school for standing by Monday and watching the fight, footage of which was posted later Monday on YouTube. Another four kids - the fight participants and the person who took the video and the person who initially posted the video - have also been disciplined.
School district officials first learned about the video on YouTube Tuesday when an anonymous person, who goes by the moniker, HSEHallwayNazi, sent the district an e-mail with the video attached, Geed said.
HSEHallwayNazi is the individual who uploaded the video on YouTube for a second time, Geed said Friday. School officials are attempting to uncover the identity of HSEHallwayNazi.
The 1-minute, 42-second video - which showed two teens alternately throwing punches and circling each other - is no longer available for viewing on YouTube because it violates the company's community guidelines.
A spokeswoman for YouTube said Friday the company does not prescreen the content of videos users upload to the site. The company relies on its members to flag videos that violate YouTube's policy.
"We have policies regarding violent content, and a specific flagging category called 'youth violence,' " she said. "We review all flagged videos quickly, and if we find that they violate our policies, we take them down."
