The Medford man charged with killing his mother with an ax has been found not competent to stand trial by two psychologists, who report he believes he is the son of the Archangel Michael and landed from space on Antarctica in 1970.

Sean Farrell, 25, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his mother, Bonnie Farrell, 45, on Dec. 9 at their home. Afterward, he checked himself into Bellevue Hospital Medical Center's psychiatric ward.

If state Supreme Court Justice William Condon agrees with the psychologists' recommendations at his next court date on Dec. 3, Farrell will be sent to a state psychiatric hospital. If his mental state improves enough, he would return to Suffolk to face the charges, although defense attorney Daniel Russo said he hopes prosecutors would agree to an insanity plea that would allow him to be hospitalized and absolved of any criminal responsibility.

The Suffolk district attorney's office did not respond to requests for comment.

Russo said although his client never had a firm grip on reality, he was lucid after his arrest. But Farrell has deteriorated significantly in the Suffolk County jail, which Russo said is not able to treat people like Farrell.

"There was a time when he knew he had done a bad thing," Russo said. "Now there's no discussion at all."

The reports filed with the court by the psychologists describe a man with lurid delusions.

Louis Gallagher in his report said Farrell "spoke in a soft and pressured voice with frequent grins that were inconsistent with the matters under discussion."

Farrell was aware he was charged with killing his mother with an ax -- but insisted he had actually killed her clone.

Farrell said he came off a Draconian spaceship in Antarctica, after being born to his mother -- a Draconian princess -- and the Archangel Michael, Gallagher wrote.

"He noted that the mutants guard the monarchies and they brought him to be raised in the poor towns of Patchogue and Medford," Gallagher wrote, adding Farrell believed that "The woman who died was a clone of Bonnie, as the real Bonnie resides on the moon."

Farrell said he has telepathic powers "as a function of being dropped on his head, with people hearing his thoughts throughout the universe and the zodiac," Gallagher wrote. "Because of his telepathic powers he is responsible for the destruction of the World Trade Center, the Boston Marathon massacre and the war in Iraq," the report said Farrell believed.

Both Gallagher and Arthur Flescher diagnosed Farrell with chronic schizophrenia with a poor prognosis.
