Police: Missing Stony Brook child, 5, found after being abducted by mother
UPDATE: No criminal convictions resulted from the case.
A 5-year-old abducted by his mother has been found and is in the custody of Child Protective Services, Suffolk County police said Friday.
The mother saw the missing persons alert that police asked media outlets to publicize, and she called one of the media outlets, which then called Suffolk police, police said.
Police declined to release other information, including whether Kristin Kapp will be charged for allegedly abducting her son, Sebastian Parsons-Kapp.
Both Kapp and her son live in Stony Brook.
On Thursday, police said they were investigating a missing persons case in which a mother abducted her child instead of turning him over to Suffolk County Child Protective Services.
When Kapp ignored the order to turn over her son, a Family Court warrant for child neglect was issued on April 27.
The child's father, who previously had an order of protection that barred him from contact with his son, reported him missing on Tuesday, police said.
