The driver of a BMW SUV was injured in an accident with a fuel truck that temporarily closed northbound Nicolls Road in front of Suffolk County Community College in Selden on Thursday morning, police said.

Suffolk County police said the crash was reported in a 911 call at 9:37 a.m.

Police said a woman driving the BMW north on Nicolls “lost control of her vehicle” and struck the rear of the petroleum truck. Police initially said the vehicle involved was a propane tanker. The front of the SUV submarined the truck, becoming wedged under the back of the truck, police said.

Emergency Service Section officers responded and, along with Selden Fire Department firefighters, extricated the 48-year-old driver, who is from Oakdale, from the BMW — transporting her to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said Nicolls was briefly closed between Horseblock Road and West Road, but has been reopened.
