A serious accident involving a pedestrian closed Route 112 in both directions in Port Jefferson Station Wednesday, police said.

The person, whose identity has not been released by Suffolk County police, was struck at about 6:30 a.m. near the Long Island Rail Road crossing on Route 112-Route 25A, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The road is closed between Perry Street and Hallock Avenue, police said. It is not clear how long it will remain closed, though police said crime scene detectives were en route.

The pedestrian has what police termed "serious personal injuries" and was taken to a hospital.
