Bicyclist killed in truck crash on Sunrise Highway, cops say

A bicyclist struck and killed by a landscaping truck Thursday afternoon in Amityville has been identified as a Copiague man, Suffolk County police said Friday.
Police said Eulogio Rodriguez, 58, was pedaling north on Albany Avenue about 4:10 p.m. when a southbound landscaping truck hit him as it turned east onto Sunrise Highway. Identification was initially withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
Rodriguez died at the scene, police said.
Police said the truck driver, identified as Mario Lazo, 38, of Brentwood, and his passenger were not hurt. The vehicle was inspected and the investigation continues, police said.
Both roadways were shut down in both directions until about 7:45 p.m. as First Precinct detectives gathered information, police said.
