Setauket traffic stop leads to forgery charges, Suffolk cops say

Two men were arrested during an early morning traffic stop in Setauket on Friday after police officers found a bag of marijuana, four forged credit cards and a credit card encoder, Suffolk County police said.

Chidubem Adi, 19, of Port Jefferson, was riding in a car with Olisa Uzoegwu, 20, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, when Officers Jon-Erik Negron and Jennifer Mackey pulled them over about 3 a.m. after the vehicle went through a red light on Old Town Road and Sheep Pasture Road, police said in a news release.

The officers noticed a bag of marijuana on the rear seat and upon further investigation found the other illicit items, police said. The officers also determined that the license plate on the vehicle was fake, police said.

The police’s identification theft unit along with Sixth squad detectives investigated the findings and then charged Uzoegwu with four counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of a forgery device, false personation and unlicensed driver, police said.

Adi was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, unauthorized possession of marijuana and false personation, police said.

Attorney information for Uzoegwu and Adi — who are scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip — was not immediately available.
