A teenager died early Sunday morning from injuries she suffered when she was struck by a sport utility vehicle while walking in Deer Park, Suffolk County police said.

The victim was identified as Shakira Wilson, 17, of Deer Park. Police said Wilson was walking west on Long Island Avenue Saturday night with her 21-year-old sister about 8:10 p.m. when she was hit by a 2010 Lexus SUV traveling west.

Wilson was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with a serious head injury, police said.

The Lexus driver, Joseph Ulysee, 67, of Wheatley Heights, suffered minor injuries and was also taken to Good Samaritan.

A female passenger, whom police did not identify, was not injured.

The Lexus was impounded for a safety check and an investigation into the accident is continuing. No summonses were issued.

Detectives said anyone with information could contact Suffolk police at 631-854-8152.
