Five people were transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center after an early-morning crash on the Long Island Expressway in Ronkonkoma Monday, Suffolk sheriffs said.

A car with two people was overturned when it was rear-ended by another car with three occupants, said Michael Sharkey, chief of staff for the sheriff. Rescuers used heavy tools to free the occupants of the overturned car, he said.

No one had serious injuries, he said. Their conditions were not available Monday night.

The accident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. on the westbound LIE at Exit 60.

The cause of the accident was not available Monday night.

No charges were filed.
