Sheriffs: Wrong-way driver on LIE charged with DWI
A Mastic woman driving the wrong way on the Long Island Expressway was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Wednesday in Holbrook, a spokesman from the Suffolk Sheriff's Department said.
A deputy sheriff driving westbound near Exit 60 saw Jacqueline Vaughan-Moscatiello, 46, headed eastbound in the westbound lane in her Suzuki sport utility vehicle at 12:55 a.m., the spokesman said.
The sheriff turned on his emergency lights and siren and attempted to make a traffic stop but Vaughan-Moscatiello swerved to the HOV lane and continued eastbound, the spokesman said.
The deputy pursued her and forced her to stop near Exit 61, Patchogue-Holbrook Road, the spokesman said.
She was charged with DWI and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
Sheriffs said they believe Vaughan-Moscatiello entered the LIE headed in the wrong direction at Exit 59 in Lakeland.
