Shirley motorcyclist critically injured in crash, cops say

A Shirley man was in critical condition Sunday when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a Jeep at a Brookhaven gas station, Suffolk police said.
James Simms, 54, of Carleton Drive was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was listed in critical condition after the 1:22 p.m. accident at 2549 Montauk Hwy., in front of OK Petroleum, police said.
Authorities said the crash occurred as Simms rode westbound along Montauk Highway and was struck by a Jeep driven by Robert Parente, 17, of Gerard Road in Yaphank.
Both the Jeep and motorcycle were impounded for safety checks, police said.
