Shirley motorist dies after his car strikes tree

A motorist died after his car went off a Shirley roadway Thursday morning and struck a tree, Suffolk police said.
Darren Corby, 44, of Shirley, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash on Smith Road, south of Montauk Highway, police said.
Detectives said they are investigating whether a medical condition might have contributed to the crash.
Corby, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Solara about 10:15 a.m. north on Smith Road, crossed over the double yellow line, through the south lane, and into a tree on the west side, police said.
Investigators asked that anyone with information about the crash call the Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
