A verbal altercation led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man after he shot several rounds from a handgun into a car on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton Thursday night, State Police said.

Julian S. Pellecier, 31, of Old Point Road on the reservation, was arrested and charged with first-degree reckless endangerment and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in Southampton Town Justice Court.

Police said Pellecier had been involved in a verbal altercation with the owner of the car - and fired shots into the car following the dispute.

The cause of the argument was not immediately clear.
