Six arrested in East End drug probe
A 10-month drug investigation in the East End has led to six arrests and the seizure of weapons and drugs, both illegal and prescription, Suffolk County prosecutors said Wednesday.
The East End Drug Task Force, a multiagency group, arrested the six last week on drug sale and conspiracy charges and searched two homes, authorities said.
Task force officials, the Suffolk County police emergency services unit and a county canine unit confiscated cash, a Mossberg short-barreled pump shotgun and an AK-47 assault rifle on Friday from the Calverton home of Shana Gilmore, 32, and William Turner, 35, Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota's office said. The two were arrested that day.
At the Manorville home of Sean Hanley, 41 oxycodone pills, 3 OxyContin pills and a small quantity of cocaine and marijuana were seized, authorities said. He was arrested Friday also.
Arrested April 18 in the sting was a code enforcement officer for Southampton Town, Alfred Tumbarello, 38, of 1620 Speonk Riverhead Rd. in Speonk, authorities said. He was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree and fourth-degree conspiracy. He was released after posting a $1,000 cash bail. A woman who answered the phone at the Tumbarello home hung up and a second call was not returned.
Then on April 19, Erick Castor, 27, of 8 Debbie Lane, Westhampton Beach, was arrested on two counts of second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was arraigned Wednesday and remanded to jail without bail. It was not clear Wednesday night if he had an attorney.
Also April 19, Frederick Wilkinson, 69, of 13 Scrub Oak Rd., Quogue, was arrested on a charge of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, cocaine. He was remanded to jail without bail; a relative, who said he was trying to get an attorney, declined to comment.
Turner, of 52 Wooded Way, was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance; two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance; and fourth-degree conspiracy. At arraignment Wednesday, his bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. A call to his attorney Wednesday night was not returned.
Gilmore, of the same address, was charged with fourth-degree conspiracy. Her bail was set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. She could not be reached for comment.
Hanley, 28, of 194 Head of Neck Rd. in Manorville, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. He could not be reached for comment. A call Wednesday to Hanley's attorney was not returned.
The task force is made up of detectives and officers from East End police departments, Suffolk County emergency services and narcotics police, state police, the Suffolk County sheriff's department, Suffolk County Park Police and the county probation department.
