Eastbound Sunrise Highway turned into a skating rink near the Robert Moses Causeway in West Islip early Tuesday, with four two-car accidents in a one-hour span, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department said.

All four accidents occurred between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. near Exit 41, the ramp to the causeway.

The Sheriff's Department said de-icing equipment that had been requested from the state Transportation Department. A sheriff's spokesman said one person who had received minor injuries had been taken to nearby Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.
