Smithtown's town board has decided regular work sessions are unnecessary, and will be called only when needed. The sessions, usually to discuss items upcoming on the board's agenda or to review site plans, are not legally required, though most towns hold them regularly. Most have attracted a couple of reporters and one or two taxpayers. But the change marks less public discussion. - Stacey Altherr
