Smithtown driver slams into parked ambulance

A driver was hospitalized after plowing into a parked, decommissioned ambulance in Smithtown at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Police offered few details about the incident and could not say whether the driver, who they said was hospitalized with "multiple fractures," was a man or a woman. The incident took place near the corner of Shepherd Lane and Route 347.

The driver was extricated by emergency service personnel and transported to a hospital. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor at this time, police said.
