A former student at Smithtown High School West was arrested after he trespassed at the school Friday morning, police said.

The 18-year-old, who was not identified, was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, Suffolk County police said.

“There is no indication of a threat to the school at this time,” police said Saturday morning in a statement. “The investigation is continuing.”

The former student entered the school with current students at about 7 a.m. and “was identified and questioned by school security and fled the school,” police said in a previous statement.

In a statement to the school community, Smithtown Central School District Superintendent James J. Grossane said Suffolk police “were notified and responded immediately.”

“The student in question has contacted the school and apologized for causing an unintended disturbance,” the statement said. “This is now a matter for the Suffolk County Police Department.”
