A Smithtown man has been arrested on charges he had digital photographs and video displaying child pornography, State Police said Tuesday.

Sean R. Murphy, 27, of 171 Brooksite Dr., was arrested after a search of his home on Monday, police said in a news release.

Acting on a tip to the Internet Crime Against Children Hotline, investigators found "digital photos and videos depicting underage children in sex acts," State Police said.

Police executed a search warrant, and a forensic analysis of an iPhone, several computers and "computer storage mediums" found at the home uncovered the files, the release said.

None of the children depicted were known to Murphy, police said.

He was charged with several counts of possessing items showing a sexual performance by a child less than 16 years old, a Class E felony.

His arraignment information at First District Court in Central Islip was not immediately available.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the New York State Police at 631-231-6389. All calls will be kept confidential.
