Southampton man faces DWI charge
A man who told police his car ran off the road and crashed while trying to avoid a deer Thursday in Southampton was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.
In addition to DWI, Christopher E. Fisher, 24, of Southampton, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident, refusal to take a prescreen breath test, unreasonable speed, operating a motor vehicle without a seat belt and moving from a lane unsafely.
The accident took place on North Road at 12:45 a.m.
Upon investigation, Southampton Town police said, it was learned that Fisher was operating his vehicle at a high rate of speed and lost control while avoiding a deer.
Fisher was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries. He was then released from the hospital and taken to police headquarters for arrest processing.
Arraignment details were not immediately available.
