Southampton roadwork to begin in spring
Suffolk County has alerted Southampton Town that roadwork to expand County Route 39 will begin this spring.
The stretch of road to be widened will extend from North Sea Road, where a 7-Eleven is located, east to Montauk Highway. The work is a continuation of the widening of County Route 39 from Sunrise Highway to North Sea Road that took place a few years ago.
County Route 39 is the major road motorists take to go through Southampton to points east, including East Hampton and Montauk.
The finished road will have two lanes going east, and one lane going west with a center turn lane.
It will also widen some side streets as well as reconfigure traffic lights and striping on the road.
