The North Babylon Fire Co. responded a single car accident on the eastbound Southern State Parkway, west of Exit 37, about 9 p.m. Sunday.   Credit: Paul Mazza

A Farmingdale man suffered severe head trauma when he lost control of car and hit multiple trees on the Southern State Parkway near Belmont Avenue on Sunday night, the New York State Police said on Monday.

Gerson E. Rauda-Garcia, 21, was driving eastbound and the only occupant of the 2005 Honda Civic Del-Sol, the state police said, added that he was operating the vehicle "at a high rate of speed."

Rauda-Garcia was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital.

The crash closed all three eastbound lanes at Straight Path

The investigation is ongoing.
