Five people had to be rescued Thursday night after their boat began taking on water in the Long Island Sound off Cutchogue, Southold police said.

The incident occurred about three-quarters of a mile off Duck Pond Point.

Police said Southold Bay Constable John Kirincic, along with town police officers William Brewer and John Crosser, responded to a call of a boat taking on water just before 8:15 p.m.

A Sea Tow vessel also responded and towed the boat to Mattituck Inlet. The size and manufacturer of the boat was not immediately known.

Police said none of the five rescued -- Roque Quintanilla, 34, of Centereach, and Erick Hernandez, 21, Rudy Hernandez, 22, Celio Orteg, 35, and, Osmond Hernandez, 28, all of Port Jefferson -- were injured. No medical attention was required.
