A 30-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident in Mattituck on Thursday afternoon, Southold Town police said.

Police said Steven Romeo, 53, of Southold was operating a skid-steer loader when the bucket fell off, hitting Andrew Leone in the head and causing severe trauma. Leone, of Southold, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Suffolk County medical examiner's office responded to assist with the investigation into Leone's death. Police said the case is being investigated as an accident and is considered noncriminal.
