SPCA investigates death of dog found near Central Islip intersection
Authorities are trying to determine what killed a dog found dead Sunday near a Central Islip intersection, saying it could have died of blunt-force trauma.
The dog, which was white and appeared to be a Poodle mix, was found in the area of Ferndale Boulevard and Coconut Street, the Suffolk County SPCA said Tuesday.
The dog was taken to the Veterinary Medical Center of Long Island in West Islip after being found and there staff performed X-rays to help determine a cause of death, SPCA Chief Roy Gross said,
A fracture to the neck was found.
"The veterinarian who examined the body did not believe it was hit by a motor vehicle," the SPCA said in a news release.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the dog to call the SPCA at 631-382-7722. The dog is believed to be a young adult.
