The Suffolk County SPCA is trying to determine who strangled and hogtied a young female pit bull, found dead Tuesday in Central Islip.

The animal protection group said the dog was found at about 1 p.m. on Audwin Road in a black plastic bag and that the inside of the dog's mouth was burned.

Results of a necropsy were not immediately available, the agency's chief, Roy Gross, said Thursday.

A reward of $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, according to a news release.

Anyone with information can contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All information will be kept confidential.
