The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is seeking information on the remains of a fatally beaten dog dumped last month, in Brentwood.

A witness reported seeing a man in his mid-20s dump a red box containing the remains of a white female Pomeranian on the southwest corner of Brentwood Road and 18th Ave., just across from the OK gas station, on Feb. 29., the SPCA said in a Monday news release.

The animal "died of blunt force trauma to the back of the head," said Roy Gross, SPCA chief.

Anyone with information can call the SPCA at 631-382-7722. Calls are kept confidential.
