Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota may be term limited, but he looked very much like a candidate last week at his $100-a-head fundraiser, which drew 300 people. And while he made no announcement about seeking re-election, Suffolk Democratic chairman Richard Schaffer announced he was starting a "Spota 2013" committee for that purpose.

Spota and two other countywide officials claim in a lawsuit that Suffolk's three-term limit does not apply to their offices, which were created in the state constitution. Schaffer said he believes the lawsuit will succeed, but if not, money in the new campaign account would be returned to contributors.
