Swimming is prohibited at Field No. 6 at West Beach in Heckscher State Park in East Islip, the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced Wednesday.
The move was made as a precaution "to assure protection of the health and safety of our swimmers," state parks said in a news release.
"Results from additional water quality testing will be reviewed to determine when swimming will once again be permitted," the release said.
Field No. 8 will remain open to swimmers.
