State Department of Transportation officials announced Monday that Exit 40 on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway to Robert Moses Causeway will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Monday and continuing through Wednesday nights.

Drivers who need access to the Robert Moses Causeway southbound will be directed to a detour using Bay Shore Road/Exit 41 just east of Exit 40. The exit will be open to motorists throughout the July Fourth weekend.

Officials said the closures are part of a plan to repair pavement and improve safety. Motorists are being notified in advance via overhead INFORM and electronic roadside signs.
