Former Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy has turned author, contributing to a book, edited by Jonathan Miller, called "The Recovering Politician's Twelve Step Program to Survive Crisis." Levy penned the Step 6 chapter, "Develop a Clear, Concise Message, and Stick To It."

Levy said he didn't write about his departure from office under pressure from District Attorney Thomas Spota but focused on such crises as the 2008 slaying in Patchogue of Ecuadorean immigrant Marcelo Lucero. "I learned it's better to stay on script than to ad-lib," he said. As for monetary return: "The other authors and I will probably split $13.45."
