A couple upset after their sport utility vehicle was stolen Monday night from a Ronkonkoma gas station were feeling better Tuesday after the vehicle -- and their Labrador retriever Lucas -- were recovered.

Both were in good condition.

"I'm just glad that I got my dog back," said Cynthia Homich, the dog's owner.

Her husband, William, said he was alone at the time, and had stopped at the gas station's convenience store for a minute to buy cigarettes. When he returned outside, the truck and dog were gone.

The vehicle was not his main concern. "I didn't care about the truck. I cared about the dog."

Suffolk County police said Lucas, an English Labrador retriever, was in the Chevrolet Suburban that was left running about 10:50 p.m. Monday outside the Gulf gas station on Express Drive North.

Cynthia Homich said a Central Islip woman saw the truck parked on a street near her home Tuesday, with an unattended dog inside. Concerned about the animal, she found an insurance card in the vehicle's glove case.

"She called us today," Cynthia Homich said. "Apparently the guy that took it just left it."

William Homich added, "I'm grateful for her help."
