A Lake Grove man has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash in Stony Brook on Sunday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Ronald Destefano, 54, was crossing Route 347 northbound at Hallock Road shortly after 7 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene, according to detectives with the Suffolk County police Major Case Unit.
A passing motorist called 911 to report a body in the roadway, authorities said.
Destefano was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Detectives believe that a silver vehicle, which sustained front and/or passenger-side damage, may have been involved in the crash.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Major Case Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
