David Maiman, of Middle Island, killed in Rocky Point wrong-way crash, police say

A Middle Island motorist who crossed into oncoming traffic in Rocky Point on Wednesday afternoon was killed when he struck another vehicle, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
About 1:30 p.m., David Maiman, 44, was heading north on Rocky Point Yaphank Road in a 2020 Lexus "when the vehicle veered into the southbound lane, striking the front driver side of a 2020 Jeep," the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release.
Maiman was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Jeep driver, a 45-year-old Port Jefferson man, was treated for minor injuries at Stony Brook.
Police impounded both vehicles for safety inspections as an investigation into the crash continued.
