Two duck hunters were rescued on a Mount Sinai Harbor island Sunday morning after their boat was carried away by waves, officials said.

The Mount Sinai Fire Department received the call at 10:17 a.m. from Suffolk County police that the "boat became detached from the island," said First Assistant Chief Jaime Baldassare. "The two men were fine; they just couldn't get off the island."

Baldassare said members from the Miller Place, Rocky Point, Port Jefferson and Sound Beach fire departments responded, along with the Suffolk County police Marine Bureau.

Mount Sinai fire chief David Taylor said department members were unable to launch their Boston Whaler "because of the ice on the boat ramp," so Rocky Point officials launched their boat right off the beach to make the rescue and turned the men over to an awaiting police boat.

Police identified the men as brothers Anthony Dombroski, 39, of Ridge, and Michael Dombroski, 35, of Medford. Neither could be reached immediately.

A man who answered a phone number registered to Anthony Dombroski and identified himself as his father, said of the brothers' condition: "They're fine."
