Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a van Monday morning on Jericho Turnpike in Commack.

Vito Dispigna, 59, of Shirley was “standing in the right lane” of westbound Jericho near Wyandanch Boulevard at about 5:45 a.m. when he was hit by a 2012 Chevrolet van, Suffolk County police said in a news release.

Dispigna was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Van driver Gregg Mofle, 47, of Smithtown, was not injured.

His car was impounded for a safety check, police said.

A section of Jericho Turnpike, also known as Route 25, near the Smithtown border, was closed for nearly two hours for the police investigation.

Detectives urge anyone with information on the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
