A duck hunter from Manorville had to be rescued by firefighters Monday after police said he got stuck in the mud in the Forge River off Mastic.

Suffolk County police said Damon Favaloro, 38, and a friend donned waders and entered the river to hunt.

But Favaloro got stuck in mud that was "up to his chest," a police spokeswoman said.

His friend, whose identity was not released, called 911 at about 10 a.m. Favaloro was rescued by volunteers from the Mastic Fire Department.

He was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital for exposure and observation.

Police said his condition was not immediately known.
