A Suffolk County police officer was the victim of a hit-and-run last night in Huntington when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled the scene, authorities said.

The officer, whose name was not disclosed Sunday night, was standing outside his patrol car on Greenlawn Road just east of Hampton Court when he was hit about 6:20 p.m., Suffolk police said.

Police said they did not have immediate details about the make and model of the vehicle that struck the officer.

The officer, assigned to Suffolk's 2nd Precinct, was described by authorities as receiving "serious" but "non-life-threatening injuries."
