Homicide detectives were investigating a fatal shooting Monday night in West Babylon, Suffolk police said.

A male victim was fatally wounded by gunfire about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sixth Street and Eight Avenue, police said.

According to the police report, the victim was shot in the upper body and was lying on the kitchen floor when officers arrived on the scene. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
