Suffolk cops rescue ducklings, reunite them with mom

A mother duck was reunited with her flock after two Suffolk County police officers rescued a group of ducklings from the storm drain they had fallen into on Tuesday afternoon.
The ducklings became trapped in a storm drain on East Hoffman Avenue in Lindenhurst and the officers were called to help at about 1:30 p.m.
Officer Margery Marotta entered the storm drain on a ladder and placed the ducklings in a backpack, police said.
Photos show Marotta and Officer Dara Caramanico-Broyles lifting the backpack of ducklings back up to the surface, where the mother duck, which had not fallen into the drain, awaited.
Police said all 12 ducklings were removed from the storm drain and reunited with their mother.
