Suffolk cops resuscitate choking woman
Two Suffolk County police officers used the Heimlich maneuver to save a 75-year-old woman at an assisted living facility in Medford Sunday, authorities said.
Officers Roger Kieber and David Kolesar were at Medford Assisted Living at 1529 North Ocean Ave. on an unrelated call shortly before 1:30 p.m. Authorities said an aide at the facility alerted the men that a woman was choking in the bathroom.
The officers went in and saw Elizabeth Detelj, who lives at the facility, unconscious. Her skin had turned blue. Authorities said the officers performed the Heimlich and restored her breathing. Detelj was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center by the Medford Fire Department and authorities said she was expected to recover.
