Motorists can expect some South Shore road closings to accommodate the Suffolk County Marathon on Sunday, county officials said Friday.

The Eighth Annual Catholic Health Suffolk County Marathon weekend kicks off Saturday with 5k and 1k races in Bay Shore’s Gardiner County Park.

Then on Sunday, the marathon, half marathon, and 10k race will start in the Village of Babylon, requiring road closures.   

The marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. at the corner of Railroad and Deer Park avenues near the Babylon LIRR station. The finish line will be at Gardiner County Park, Montauk Highway in Bay Shore. The following are road closures Sunday: 

Starting at 5:30 a.m.

Northbound Robert Moses Causeway from Captree State Park to Route 27A will be closed until to 2 p.m., said Nicole Russo, a spokesperson from the office of Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone.

The southbound bridge will remain fully open as will the east and westbound lanes of Ocean Parkway.

Residents in the area will need to use the Wantagh Parkway to travel North of the Ocean Parkway, Russo said.

Starting at 6 a.m. 

All intersections on Deer Park Avenue near the starting line will be closed, as will Railroad Avenue from Carll Avenue to Deer Park Avenue, until 8:25 a.m.

Starting at 6:30 a.m.

West Main Street between Carll Avenue and Deer Park Avenue will be closed until 8:25 a.m.

West Main Street between Carll Avenue and Little East Neck Road, and Little East Neck Road, will be closed until 7:55 a.m.

Trolley Line Road from Little East Neck Road to Carll Avenue will be closed until 8:05 a.m.

Deer Park Avenue to Route 231 will be closed until 8:35 a.m. 

Route 231 to Higbie Lane will be closed until 8:45 a.m.

Higbie Lane to Robert Moses Causeway will be closed until 9:10 a.m.

Robert Moses Causeway to Manor Lane will be closed until 2:10 p.m.

Manor Lane and Gardiner Avenue intersections near the finish line will be closed until 3 p.m.

Roads may be closed earlier, may remain closed longer, or may reopen sooner than publicized, Russo said.
