A Mastic man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he hit a pedestrian in Patchogue early Sunday morning and drove away, Suffolk police said.

Roberto Ortez, 38, was driving a 2005 Nissan Armada on Main Street in Patchogue at 2:07 a.m. when his vehicle struck an East Patchogue man, 30, as he crossed the street near North Ocean Avenue, police said.

Ortez continued driving for about 1/8 of a mile before he rear-ended a Ford Expedition and then struck a utility pole near River Avenue, police said.

Both Ortez and the pedestrian, who was not identified by police, were treated for minor injuries at Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, according to police. The driver of the Ford was not injured.

Ortez was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, police said. He was held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
