Suffolk lawmakers are looking to waive the usual six-month waiting period and name the north complex of county buildings in Hauppauge after the late Presiding Officer William Lindsay, who died in September after a record eight-year tenure as a legislative leader.

The legislature's site committee is set to meet today, and the measure is sponsored by legislators William Spencer (D-Centerport) and Kara Hahn (D-Setauket) and co-sponsored by all 15 of their colleagues. It would be voted on at the next legislative meeting in Riverhead on Dec. 3.

Presiding Officer Wayne Horsley (D-Babylon) said expediting the process would assure those who served with Lindsay would be the ones to honor him. "We wanted it to be this legislature," he said.
