Suffolk County residents are being offered a free child-identification program sponsored by the Police Athletic League and District Attorney Thomas Spota.

The Ident-a-Kit program is designed to help in the event a child is missing and offers special instructions, safety tips and a packet, including emergency contact information, medical history, photograph, DNA sample and thumbprints.

The program is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursdays at Suffolk County Police headquarters in Yaphank. Attendance is by appointment only.

To register, call 631-852-6109 or email Jeanne.Kremnitzer@suffolkcountyny.gov.
