Suffolk police deliver baby in back of car
Three Suffolk County police officers helped deliver a baby Friday night in Ronkonkoma.
Fourth Precinct Officer Thomas Lafemina responded to a call about a mother in labor on West Eighth Street about 9:55 p.m., police said.
Lafemina, also a paramedic, responded with two other officers, Ingrid Schwen and Thomas Speciale. They found the mother "in distress" in the backseat of a sedan, according to a news release.
Lafemina delivered a "healthy baby boy" with assistance from the other officers, police said.
The mother and child were taken to a hospital in good condition by the Lakeland Fire Department, police said.
