Suffolk police: Driver killed in Straight Path crash

A motorist attempting to make a U-turn on Straight Path in Wheatley Heights was fatally injured Thursday night when her car was hit by another vehicle, police said.

Olga Quispe, 66, of Wyandanch, was attempting to make the U-turn from the southbound shoulder of the road near Venedia Drive about 10:42 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

A southbound 2007 Chrysler 300 driven by Domenick Duarte, 20, of Dix Hills, crashed into the side of Quispe’s 1997 Toyota Corolla, police said.

Quispe was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

Duarte was released at the scene and had no serious injuries, police said.

Both cars were impounded for a safety check, and no charges were filed, police said.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information about the crash was asked to call police at 631-854-8152.
