Suffolk police looking for hit-and-run driver
Suffolk County's Sixth Precinct Crime Section is looking for the driver of a white Mercedes sport utility vehicle who police said drove away after hitting another vehicle in Setauket.
Police in a Monday news release said the driver, a woman, hit a 2014 Kia on eastbound Route 347, just east of Pond Path, at about 9:05 p.m. on Aug. 1.
The two vehicles pulled into a nearby gas station but the driver of the Mercedes fled before police arrived, according to the release.
The driver had long brown hair, a tattoo on her right ankle and her vehicle had stolen license plates (AFN 4311), police said.
The vehicle also was damaged on the driver's side.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
