Police: Man found seriously injured near LIE service road in Farmingville

Suffolk police are investigating how a man ended up with serious injuries near an LIE service road in Farmingville after they initially believed he was hurt yesterday morning in a rush-hour traffic accident.
Officials said officers responded to a 911 call reporting a pedestrian on the side of the westbound service road after being hit by a car.
When they arrived, officers determined the injured man was not the victim of a vehicle-pedestrian accident.
The unidentified victim was found at 8 a.m. on Spurwoods Lane just off the Long Island Expressway service road, police said. He was brought to a hospital, where his condition was unknown.
Police did not release details about how they concluded the man's injuries were not traffic-related, citing an ongoing investigation, but they have ruled out a hit-and-run -- or any motor vehicle involvement, officials said.
Police would not say if they believe the man was a victim of an assault or injured in some other manner.
