Suffolk County police and Crime Stoppers are sponsoring a gun buyback program Saturday at an Amityville church.

Unregistered guns -- handguns and assault weapons -- will be collected in return for cash from noon to 3 p.m. at Prayer Tabernacle Church, 3550 Great Neck Rd., according to a news release by police.

Handguns will be worth $100; assault weapons will be worth $300, police said.

All weapons must be unloaded and placed in a bag or box for collection.

Rifles and shotguns are not eligible for the buyback program and limits on the number of guns being purchased from an individual might apply, police said.
